RockmetalmagTell us about the creation of Luna Obscura?

I can’t remember how many times have respond to this question hahahah :) …it’s really funny but first I want to thank you for your interest on LO’s music. We came from a small town in Greece called Serrai and we’ve been officially formed in 2000 from Aris (Harsh male vocals) and Dimitris (Guitars). The line up was completely different. After 3 years the band started to record the first demo “Darcanda”, I’ve met the guys and joined the band vocally. Then came some other new members and some short scheduled live shows followed. Many people met the band, the press was also really friendly with us and all the things went great. Until now we have released, the demo “Darcanda” 2004, the EP “Evilyn” 2007, the full length album “Feltia” (2008-2009) and the story continued…

Why “Luna Obscura”? What does it mean?

For us it’s the dark side of the moon that no one can see. We like the whole mystery behind that.

What does “Feltia” mean?

It was an idea of mine. I like the words without any specific meaning. “Feltia” is a mixture of the words “feel” “fall” “fault” and defines the human psychic situation when a person is melancholically and emotionally charged.

How old were you when you first started to learn singing?

I first involved with the metal genre as a listener when I was 10 and started to sing for fun. I sang everywhere….in my room, in the bathroom, on the road, in school and someday a teacher of mine told me that I have a good voice and asked me if I want to join the school chorus. From then everything came easily for me, I guess I found my direction.

What musicians/vocalists are important influences for you?

I admire vocalists like Cathrine Paulsen, Liv Kristine, Lisa Gerrard, Vibeke Stene of course men’s like Aaron Stainthorpe, Jonas Renkse, Anders Jacobsson, Vincent Cavanagh are also in my list.

If you had the chance to participate in a project as a solo artist or a duet, which band or vocalist would you choose?

No I’m not interested for a solo career because I love what I do now. It may sound childish but I have dreamt many times to make a duet with all the vocalists that I admire and I guess you can imagine who might be.

What do you transmit in your melodies with Luna Obscura?

My feelings, nothing more…nothing less!!! Every song is always a big challenge for me.

Any surprises for this year?

If I tell you will not be surprises any more :):):)
Tell us about the Greek Metal scene
Greece have many great bands like the famous Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, Firewind, Nightrage, Dimlight, The Rain I Bleed, Elysion, The Fallen Within, Mencea, Psycho Choke, WEB, Daylight Misery and so many others. Unfortunately if you want to emerge from the underground you have to promote your music outside of Greece because the situation here is really bad.

Which countries would you like to visit with Luna Obscura?

Italy, France, Finland, Norway, Russia, UK, America etc.….as many as we can!!!

We know that your music contains a mix of atmospheres and musical sounds, which has cataloged you in different musical genres. What genre describes better the music you guys make?

We have atmospheric death and gothic elements to our music, harsh male and clean female vocals so I guess that Gothic Metal and Melodic Death fit the most to our sound if we have to categorize it.

What do you think about the success of Luna Obscura in distant places like Latin America?

We really enjoy it, people there are so kind! They gave us many gold stars and would be disrespect if I don’t thank them on behalf of all of us for their support!!

When are you going to release your new album?

We have a lot of work to do for the new album and it’s soon to speak for the release.  We have many lyric themes ready and now we’re working on the music part. “Feltia” is a really good album and means a lot to us but the idea to record another good album is not enough for the band. It’s time to make the next step and we need this more than ever so we have to let our souls free to fly and see what we can reach. We certainly don’t want to disappoint fans and ourselves and that’s why we need time.

What's more satisfying to you: being a Musician dedicated to Graphic Design, or being a Graphic Designer dedicated to Music? Which of these professions is your priority?

I can’t separate them…both are huge priorities for me. Music is my biggest love and graphics is my passion….I can’t live without creativity in my life :)

Do you have something in mind every time you want to create Graphic Design, or the designs are just random?

Always have something in mind :) which gives me the direction to create an artwork. The last months I’m working on my first artwork series named “Fairytale” inspired from fairytales, dolls, dreamy places and strange dark characters. I never felt so hard in my life, it’s difficult to explain it but if I didn’t have a plan for every artwork of this project I guess it will be a big disaster.
Tell us more about your experience of working on the design of the album covers by bands like Black Thoughts Bleeding (Ger), Theodore Ziras (Gre) and Bob Katsionis (Gre)
It was great, the artists loved my stuff, the audience too…the whole process until we finish the works was totally amazing for me…I couldn’t ask for anything more.  I’m really grateful and proud for all the collaborations that I have done until now.

In your demos “Darcanda” and “Evilyn” we find some good tracks that do not appear in your debut album “Feltia”. Are you planning to re-edit them and release them someday (maybe in a single or in your next album)?

We kept only “Symphony Of Sighs” because it was the most known song of our demo “Darcanda” and we wanted to record this again. We had many songs ready (some of them were too old) but not too much space to keep them all. To be honest we have only discussed about the re-production of the EP “Evilyn”, I’m not sure if we’ll proceed with that because it’s more important to work for the new album but we’ll see.

Special thanks to our friends and fans of Luna Obscura:
